Oxidation happens when a molecule loses a hydrogen and gains an oxygen. Primary and secondary alcohols have hydrogens to lose, so they oxidize easily. They are also capable of gaining oxygen. Tetriary alcohols are unable to lose hydrogens. They are also unable to gain oxygen.
