The California gold rush turned "San Francisco" into perhaps the world's most diverse city.

It was in January 1848 when James W. Marshell at Sutter’s Mill in Coloma found a shiny metal (which was gold). The news spread like a wild fire and it is said that an estimated number of 300,000 folks flooded to California from around the US and abroad for gold.
