The sum of 4 times mike's age and 3 times susan's age is 79. mike is 1 year more than 3 times as old as susan. find each of their ages.

Let x be Susan's age
Mike's age; 1+3x

4(1+3x)+3x=79 (solve for x) 
4+12x+3x=79 
15x=79-4 
15x=75
x=75/15 
x= 5 

Therefore, Mike is 5 years old, Susan is (1+3x5)=16 years old.
