Solve for one variable x or y first. So lets solve for x. If you take the first equation x= -12 -5y. You then plug that into the second equation
5(-12-5y) +4y = 24
now you solve for y
-60 - 25y + 4y =24
-21y=84
y=-4
Now you plug in y back into either equation and you get x=8
