When we work with complex numbers:

⇒ we add all the like terms

     ⇒ terms with 'i' add with terms that have an 'i' ⇒ [tex]i -5i=-4i[/tex]

     ⇒ constants add with constants ⇒ [tex]-4+10=6[/tex]

Let's find the sum now:

  [tex](-4+i)+(10-5i)=-4+10 +(i-5i)=6-4i[/tex]

Answer: The sum of (-4+ i) and (10 - 5i) is 6 - 4i

Hope that helps!
