Temperature decreases as depth increases (generally)

Explanation:

In general, sunlight will heat the upper level of water.  As you go deeper into the water, the sunlight cannot reach as easily so the temperature is lower.

There are exceptions considering underwater currents like the Gulf Stream or volcanic vents.
