Where does electromagnetic energy come from?

When an atom absorbs energy, electrons absorb this energy and get excited. This excited electrons jump into higher orbits. When electrons return to their original position, they release electromagnetic radiations which is also called electromagnetic energy. Hope it cleared your doubt
