Average velocity = (displacement)/(time)

Since Walt ran in a straight line, the magnitude of his displacement

was equal to the distance he ran = 5 km.

(displacement) / (time) = (5 km east) / (25 min)

Average velocity = 0.2 km/minute east

That's also equal to 12 km/hour east
