The two most divisive issues when it comes to Eastern European nationalism have been politics and ethnicity. The French Revolution played a key role in sparking the birth of nationalism in Eastern Europe. This in turn brought out intellectuals and liberal thinking which eventually paved the way for Europeans to develop their sense of national identity and specific ethnicity.
